In 1998 Wigtown was officially designated as Scotland’s National Book Town and in 1999 The Wigtown Book Festival was born. It has become not only a celebration of literature but of music, film and theatre with many famous authors, journalists, politicians and celebrities taking to the stage. It’s a ten day event usually in the autumn each year. There is a programme of over 200 events with a good number allocated to children so it can be a family occasion. Main events take place in two marquees that dominate the main town square.
Additionally there is a craft fair tent where local artists and businesses selling their wares.
Cafes and book shops are all buzzing and this quiet little town homes alive.
Tickets can be booked online, by phone or in person at the box office in the main street. You can check out the website for more up to date information.
