Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival is a fantastic weekend in July filled full of great traditional and acoustic music. It happens in and around the town in a range of venues from street busking to ticked events with top headline acts. Whether you like to soak yourself in traditional music or just fancy catching the odd band, there is something for everyone.
Newton Stewart is a small town in Dumfries and Galloway it sits at the base of the Galloway Forest Park and is central to many of the small town between Dumfries to the east and Stranraer to the west, making it an ideal holiday location.
Kirroughtree Visitors Centre is just 10 minute by car from Otter Cottage. This forest park is a great location for all ages offering both forest walking and bike trails.
Glentrool Visitors Centre is about 10 minutes drive from Otter Cottage. This is a beautiful area for both walkers and mountain bikers.
Crafty Distillery at Newton Stewart is a modern Gin distillery. The distillery has a lovely location above the roundabout just opposite the road into Newtown Stewart on the A75. This is home to the award winning Hills & Harbour Gin where you can take a tour get knowledge of their process and enjoy a sample at the end.
Newton Stewart Golf Club is a 10 minute walk from the cottage and offers an all year round mature 18 hole parkland course. The club is renowned for its warm welcome with facilities to cater for all ages. The course itself is an 18 hole measuring 5806 yards (par69) and can give the most experienced golfer an extremely challenging day out.
Some of the best fishing in Scotland is on the Cree which runs through Newton Stewart and the Bladnoch, close to Wigtown eight miles away. The good news is that you can fish the River Cree directly from the terrace patio or the small embankment below Otter Cottage
The Creebridge House Hotel is a five-minute walk from Otter Cottage making it very popular with guests. It is a small hotel with a bar and restaurant and the staff are very friendly.
