The CatStrand is an unassuming building in New Galloway but it’s actually a modern arts venue and community centre and best of all it’s just 30 away from Otter Cottage.

The CatStrand hold a full and regular programme of arts, music, film, dance throughout the year. Whenever time of year you visit this wonderful area make sure you check out the website to see what’s on.
The theatre area to the back is small but holds approximately 70 seats. It offers a lovely unique experience of getting up-close to the artists and the sound quality is generally very good. Some events are tied in with food which is a really nice way to spend an evening.
If you’re visiting during the day there is a little gift shop supporting local arts and crafts and a licensed cafe that serves light lunches with good cakes and coffee.
The story behind the creation of the CatStrand is as fantastic as this venue itself. Its an amazing story of resilience and determination by the people of the Glenkens community to revitalise their devastated area following the breakout of foot and mouth disease back in 2001.
