The cottage accommodation

Otter Cottage is a delightfully light and airy cottage and its proximity to the river is what makes this place quite special.  The river side of the building is south facing getting the sun from mid-morning until it goes down in the evening.

The living room and kitchen area is open plan and has a boathouse feel to it, creating a lovely relaxing holiday environment. A large corner sofa is positioned directly opposite the double patio doors to overlook the river where you can wile away the day watching the ever-changing water and its fascinating wildlife.

As well as gas central heating throughout, the living area also has a wood-burning stove for those cosy nights in or to really enjoy those winter getaways. There is WiFi and a wall-mounted Smart TV with Freeview and a DVD player with a small selection of films and box sets.  Additionally, there is a small collection of paperbacks and a chess set.

The well-fitted kitchen has a large rounded breakfast bar where you can enjoy your meals without removing yourself from the draw of the river. Appliances include oven & hob, washing machine, microwave, small fridge freezer, kettle, toaster, and a DolceGusto pod coffee machine.

The bedroom

The bedroom has a comfy king-sized bed, large double wardrobe with plenty of storage to store away your clothes, travel items. There's also a full-length mirror for when you are getting ready and an armchair if you decide to sit back relax or even read a book. The window looks out to the River Cree were as always the river flows and the wildlife swims.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY...

Sit outside at night and listen to the salmon leap

We are very busy in our working lives, so relaxing by the water reading books, magazines with a good pair of binoculars by the river was great. A generous complimentary box of goodies was a great start. Sit outside at night and listen to the salmon leap, or in the morning with a coffee and a gaggle of quacky ducks come up to the waters edge for their breakfast, challenged by Arctic terns and gulls for the scraps. There is a large humped piece of rock protruding high above the water across from the cottage, where a magnificent Heron visits daily, arching his neck and patrolling the water for any unsuspecting fish below. The bed was comfy and incidentally the Hypnos mattress is the same brand as Premier, Mrs M was nosey not me....... Thanks Tom & Sandra (Starfish chippy was the only let down in our opinion, check reviews first perhaps )

We will be recommending this cottage to family and friends

We have just returned from a fantastic holiday at Otter cottage. The cottage was amazing the housekeeper Billie obviously has a very high standard. It is in a lovely position in Newton Stewart. We were so blessed with the weather to so sat out every day watched the salmon jumping and the daily visit from a heron. The cottage is perfect for a couple. We were disappointed we never had chance to use woodburner because it was to warm. Plenty of walks to do both from Newton Stewart and in the Galloway forest. We did a lovely walk around Loch Trool. Carrick beach a drive away but lovely and quiet beach. Nice places to eat we would definitely recommend House o Hill but you need to book in advance. We will be recommending this cottage to family and friends and will definitely look at returning again

What more do you need? Clean, bright and welcoming.

What more do you need? Clean, bright and welcoming. Amenities are a few minutes walk away and there is plenty to do further afield if you are willing to drive. (Although not needed) The owners have made every effort to make us feel welcome and with a wood burner, and river views complete with an outside sitting area; finding some peace and tranquility is not a difficult task. If you are lucky enough to get the weather their are many walks waiting to be discovered that are easily accessible even to the novice walker. Great holiday for a couple. We will be back.

The property was perfect for a couple, well equipped, comfortable and very clean.

We had a great week at Otter Cottage. The property was perfect for a couple, well equipped, comfortable and very clean. Communication with the owners was excellent. We enjoyed sitting on the riverside terrace which is perfect for catching the afternoon/evening sun and watching the wildlife. The cottage is well located with the local shops and pubs/eateries within walking distance but it's also ideally placed for reaching the many local attractions by car. During the week we visited Wigtown, Kirkcudbright, Gatehouse of Fleet, Isle of Whithorn, Port William and the Mull of Galloway as well as several beautiful beaches, Bladnoch Distillery, Wood of Cree Nature Reserve. the Logan Botanic Garden and had walks in Galloway Forest Park. We would certainly recommend Otter Cottage.

A beautiful accomodation, very good location

A beautiful accomodation, very good location and from the moment we arrived we got access easily and the place was very clean and tidy. The bathroom area was sparkling clean, I was impressed!

The open plan living space was great and the bedroom was spacious with plenty of storage and the bed and pillows were as comfortable as my own bed at home, if not better actually.

The kitchen area had everything we needed and again was very clean.

The outdoor riverside terrace area was brilliant. I sat there and watched the ducks and fish jump for ages.

I would highly recommend this Dumfries and Gaslloway holiday cottage to anyone coming to Scotland for a visit. A week wasn't enough, if I am honest!

Thanks again, we will be back.

Very clean, warm and had all the facilities we needed for our stay

This place was very clean, warm and had all the facilities we needed for our stay, and more actually.

The beds we super comfy and the river setting was simply beautiful. Nothing beats waking up in the morning, pulling the blinds and stepping out into the sun terrace to drink coffee with the ducks.

The toilet and shower was modern, clean and spacious.

The kitchen had everything required for eating in and a medium sized fridge for storing food.

The cottage is placed in Newton Stewart only a 5 minute walk into the town centre, just a stroll over the bridge with the river Cree below you.

In the town itself there is everything from Aldi, Sainsburys, Co-op and small grocery shops. Plenty of places to eat, drink and shop.

Also very well placed for visiting other nearby towns like Castle Douglas, Kirkcubright, Port Patrick, Wigtown by car. This was a big thing for us as it allowed us to see plenty of Dumfries and Galloway.

You must go see the coastline, it's stunning and after a busy day walking the beaches it was a joy to return to our comfy, clean cottage where we burned logs on the fire and had a glass of wine or two until we fell asleep.

We will return to Otter Cottage in Newton Stewart as it was a brilliant stay, the communication with the owners was excellent and we found the website to be an absolutely amazing tool during our stay. It was packed full of ideas, places to visit and stuff we would not have known.

I'd like to thank Otter Cottage for their facilities and the website. There has been a lot of effort put into the site and another reason we decided to stay here. Thank you!
