HISTORICAL SITE

Glentrool Visitors Centre is about 10 minutes drive from Otter Cottage.

This is a beautiful area for both walkers and mountain bikers.

Walkers and Hikers

Glentrool is one of the starting points for the Merrick, the largest hill in the southern Scotland. If a less strenuous walk is what you had in mind there a 4 marked routes suitable for different levels of fitness and taking in amazing scenery.

A 3 mile walk along the road past the car park gets you to Bruce’s Stone, a monument to Robert the Bruce overlooking the site of the Battle of Glen Trool. The walk is deceivingly long so if you prefer you can drive up this section of the road and the parking at the end is free.

Mountain Biking and Cycling

Glentrool has 2 fun mountain biking trails considered easy and moderate and are suitable for families  or the less serious rider. The scenery is great and the routes are more open than those at nearby Kirroughtree.

Additionally there is a great road based route that is approximately 36 miles long taking you through some very picturesque scenery and offering a challenging day out should you wish to do the whole thing.

Cafe

The Visitors Centre is a small log cabin with a cafe that does light lunches, cakes, teas and coffees.
