Mull of Galloway lighthouse set right on the edge of Scotland’s most southern point siting 260 ft. above sea level and it’s only an hours drive from Otter Cottage. This is a lovely drive both peaceful and tranquil and you won’t be disappointed with the destination. The approach up to the lighthouse is quite something as you navigate through a heard of cattle on a single track road. The parking is free and the Gallie Craig Coffee House is a must, although be aware it is closed December and January. The views from this glass fronted clifftop cafe are breathtaking and the food is very good. The lighthouse and exhibition are well worth a visit and the views over to Ireland and the Isle of Man are amazing on a good day. There are a number of short walks around the lighthouse and if feeling fit you tackle the steps down to the Fog Horn. The small bay at the start of the single track is glorious if you’re lucky enough to get the weather and is great for a picnic.
This is a great run with loads of places of interest for you to choose from. Drive down through Sandhead with its huge beach and tearoom, stop of at the Kirkmadrine Stones then down through Drummore and its little harbour before making your way to the lighthouse. On the return route turn up to Port Logan which is a stunning little village and harbour before heading back up past Sandhead and finally on to Portpatrick which is always worth a visit.
